Description

The book explores the extraordinary richness and complexity of some of the most significant gardens and parks of the sumptuous Venetian villas, built between the 16th and 19th centuries. Philosophical ideals, aesthetic taste, and botanical and hydraulic knowledge combined to create authentic masterpieces, an ideal backdrop to showcase both the exquisite architecture of the residences and the values underlying the “villa culture,” a unique phenomenon that developed in Veneto from the Renaissance to the 20th century. Evocative photographs present these surviving cameos from ancient eras, where garden and landscape merged in boundless beauty. For each villa, a written text outlines the complex’s origins, reconstructing its history over time, and highlighting its stylistic, construction, and botanical peculiarities.
