Description

Lake Como is praised by ancient chroniclers for its beauty, but also for its agricultural production, particularly wine, which for centuries was a competitive market between the city of Milan and Switzerland. Vineyards once lined the sunny shores of the lake and extended up the Valtellina and Valchiavenna valleys, as far as terraced slopes were possible. This book, through a photographic reportage, presents three historically characteristic vineyards of this district: the Miglio vineyard in Domaso, in the Upper Lake District; the San Lorenzo vineyard in the Sondrio basin, in Valtellina; and the Palazzo Vertemate Franchi vineyard in Piuro, in Valchiavenna. A look back to the past, appreciating traditional crops as a means of protecting the landscape.
