The catalog for the exhibition Pane e vino. Tracce del Mistero eucaristico nella pittura a Como dal XVI al XVIII secolo features thirty works—including paintings and frescoes from the 16th to the 18th century—selected from Como’s artistic heritage for their explicitly Eucharistic content or for the presence of signs and symbols that reference that mystery. The underlying theme of the volume is the Eucharist, as it is represented or evoked in the paintings that adorn the churches of Como and its province, in memory of a faithful people eager to embellish and enrich their places of worship with images rich in theological meaning.
