The catalogue, Ritratto di famiglia. I Bisi, una dinastia di artisti nella Lombardia romantica tra Manzoni, Hayez e la principessa Belgiojoso, accompanies and complements the exhibition held at Villa Carlotta (Tremezzina, Como) in 2025. The book’s structure begins with an analysis of the early relationship between the Bisis, one of the most established artistic families of the 19th century and Villa Carlotta, marked in particular by the patronage of Giovanni Battista Sommariva, owner of the prestigious residence on the shores of Lake Como. For the first time, the catalogue highlights the various members of the Bisi clan, their work and the biographical events of this formidable dynasty, which over the course of a century forged friendly ties with some of the most illustrious figures of Milanese society, from Massimo Taparelli d’Azeglio to Francesco Hayez, from Alessandro Manzoni to Carlo Cattaneo, from Countess Julia Samoyloff to Princess Cristina Barbiano di Belgiojoso Trivulzio. The in-depth studies, the results of which are presented in the catalogue, have led to a systematic archival survey and an accurate genealogical reconstruction of the family, allowing for a better understanding of the family’s artistic production and its dense network of personal and professional relationships.
