This volume, published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name (Villa Carlotta, Tremezzina, Como, June 22 – November 3, 2019), features essays by historians, art historians, and architectural, fashion, and costume scholars. Previously unpublished research on family portraits and artistic commissions from the Clerici family's various residences throughout Lombardy leads the reader on a discovery of the "splendors" of one of the most influential families of the 18th century. The book devotes considerable space to the construction of Villa Clerici, now Villa Carlotta in Tremezzina, analyzing its artistic and architectural assets and its splendid garden. Thanks also to the study of two 18th-century inventories, the description of the rooms, furnishings, and works of art that characterized the sumptuous residence at the time is reconstructed, making it one of the most prestigious and renowned villas of delight in Lombardy.
